LAHAINA’S VOYAGING CANOE CELEBRATED

Thousands of people donated money, time and supplies to allow a little group of Hawaiian canoe builders to pull this off — a triumph of Hawaiian spirit and will. Mo’okiha o Pi’ilani: Wood, 63 ft long, 20 ft wide, Fiberglas-coated double hulls, double-masted, lashed together with 9 miles of nylon rope, crew of 14, weighs 11 tons, one long-shaft outboard engine for docking. USCG International Registry.
